Education:
Engineering Degree or Diploma in Mechanical building services or similar
Responsibilities:
Department-Wide Quality Control Program
- Lead and manage the mechanical department’s quality control and quality assurance program.
- Develop, maintain, and improve internal quality procedures, review processes, and technical standards.
- Monitor consistency of deliverables across teams and projects.
- Identify recurring quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Mechanical Specification Development
- Lead the development, standardization, and continuous improvement of mechanical master specifications.
- Maintain specification quality, relevance, and consistency with current codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Support project teams in adapting standard specifications for project-specific needs.
- Coordinate updates based on lessons learned, field experience, and evolving market requirements.
Department Technical Resource
- Serve as the department’s go-to senior technical resource for complex mechanical design, code interpretation, and technical problem solving.
- Support project teams in resolving design challenges and evaluating technical approaches.
- Provide guidance on best practices related to HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, controls, and system integration.
- Assist in the development of technical training and knowledge sharing across the department.
Lessons Learned Coordination
- Lead the collection, organization, and implementation of lessons learned from completed projects, construction reviews, and internal feedback.
- Ensure lessons learned are translated into practical improvements in standards, details, specifications, and workflows.
- Facilitate regular communication of recurring technical and coordination issues within the department.
Peer Review Management
- Manage the department peer review program.
- Assign, coordinate, and track peer reviews for projects as required.
- Ensure peer reviews are completed thoroughly, consistently, and in a timely manner.
- Help teams address review comments and strengthen final deliverable quality.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in mechanical consulting engineering, preferably 15+ years.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) in British Columbia, or ability to obtain registration promptly.
- Strong technical expertise in building mechanical systems across a broad range of project types.
- Demonstrated experience in quality control, technical leadership, and senior-level design review.
- Deep understanding of codes, standards, specifications, and consulting engineering best practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Assets
- Experience developing or maintaining master specifications and technical standards.
- Experience mentoring project teams and supporting staff development.
- Broad exposure to complex institutional, healthcare, education, civic, or infrastructure projects.
- Strong interest in continuous improvement, knowledge management, and technical excellence.
